Public Water Sources

Regulations now require that all public water sources be protected against cross contamination. Many of these requirements are incumbent upon both consumers and water providers. Backflow prevention devices now require annual checking and all water suppliers must also pass annual inspections.

State License Certification

New York State backflow testing must be done by licensed Backflow Prevention Testers who hold a current state license in good standing. These Testers are the only people authorized to test backflow devices and their testing equipment must be tested and re-certified every year Although local ordinances in some areas require that testing be done by city inspectors only, these inspectors must also meet the stringent state requirements.

While there are certain minimum requirements, different regulation bodies may impose more exacting standards depending on the problems faced in certain geographic areas.

For example, backflow prevention devices are now required to be installed with sprinkler systems in most areas. This applies whether you are operating commercially or not.

And so it is necessary for construction contractors, water providers, businesses and even consumers to know what the local requirements are. These include municipal as well as county and state regulations as well as Federal. Plus, almost all cities and all water suppliers must now be tested annually.
